I Don't Have Time To Stay Healthy!

"Whoa! You've got to be kidding! Me? Time and efforts? No way! I have no time for my family and kids. How the heck you suppose I have time to look like those beautiful pageants and hunks?

Well, that depends on You. It's entirely up to you. To be frank on this issue, no body will ever force you on this matter unless you have a really close friend who wants you to be perfect. How many of us actually have such friends? Friends who would criticize you and ask you to be perfect? I have had lots of friends who praise me but I have only one friend who picks out the worst in me. I don't feel bad. In a true essence, she is my best friend.

"OK! Leave about friends, you were talking about not having time to be healthy, where's that gone?

Sorry, I guess I get carried off sometimes. This particular condition of not having time to stay healthy is a regular rant among baby boomers.

"Baby boomers? Who are they?

If your birthday falls in the following year zones from 1946 to 1964, you are a baby boomer.

"OK. I am a baby boomer. And yes, I do rant. In fact, I chant this mantra of not having time to be healthy every day. What do you suppose we can do about that?

Well, all you need is to think positive about being healthy. As you work hard to get those regular bonus and paychecks so that you can get a new car or a new house, in the same way, I want you to work towards your goal which is, to be healthy. Once you are determined on this, no body or nothing can stop you from achieving it. Even if you have parties to attend, you will watch your diet and eat sensibly. You will look into as many books to get the best health tip which would keep you running throughout. You would go to your healthcare practitioner to find the best options available for you to be healthy. There are lots you can do. don't give up and become a couch potato. Run around. Play. Stuff your fridge with fruits and vegetables. These are a few tips for a start.

"Why only baby boomers? Why not the other generations?

It has been found that nearly 75 million children were born from 1946 to 1964 and this was a baby booming era. After the Second World War, there was a complete transition in the world economies as well as technology. In fact, the advanced techie life we live today is supposed to be credited to these baby boomers who worked day and night to give us the kind of life we live today. In the midst of all this, they gave little priority to their health. There are exceptions to this though but most of the baby boomers have been found to be diagnosed with cardiovascular problems, sleeping disorders, depression, eye problems and even diabetes.

"Hmm I never thought about that. I am 48. What do you think people of my generation should do to preserve their health?

First and foremost, be determined. Make a promise to yourself that you will take every step to ensure good health- even if it means sacrificing sweets, alcohol and night-time soap operas. Walk at least 30 minutes every day, preferably after dinner. Try meditating. Calm down and leave all your worries or concerns at your office. Go for a picnic with your family. Play baseball or basketball with your kids. Drink plenty of water- 2 liters per day is a must. Have as much fiber as you can to ensure that you never suffer from colon cancer. Sleep at least 6 hours per day- You need it! If you smoke, quit it right away by first contacting your counselor. Never go the cold-turkey method. If you are obese, try to shed of those love handles and extra pounds by exercising and natural weight loss measures. See your health specialist at least once a month and ophthalmologist at least twice a year. Keep a tab on your blood sugar and blood pressure levels. Record any changes you may go through. It would be helpful for your practitioner to diagnose any condition easily. Last but not the least, love your kids and your wife. Did you know that when you shower the feelings of love and affection, a special kind of hormones are released which help you strengthen your immune system? With that said, I guess you have a reason to love now!
