More Autumn Decorations
There are few holidays that bring out the creepy crawlies like
Halloween does.
It is the perfect holiday for letting the
ghosts, goblins, spiders and bats abound in your interior decor.
Purchasing things can get expensive, so this year, why not have a
handmade Halloween that will have your house looking spooky in no time.
Use the simple tips and ideas below to get you started.
Lollipop Ghosts
Decorate your ceiling
fans with a rush of white ghosts. This simple craft is perfect for
even the smallest toddler fingers. You will need a bag of large
lollipops, white tissues, white yarn, and a permanent marker. Wrap
a tissue around the head of each of the lollipops and tie it on with a
length of yarn. The yarn should be long enough on one end to be
tied to the blade of the ceiling fan. Do this for each ceiling fan
blade making sure that the ceiling fan is turned off before attempting
to tie the ghosts on. Once the ghosts have been securely tied to
the blades, turn the fan on low. Your ceiling will look
frighteningly cheery with the group of ghosts swinging to and fro.

Paper Mache Pumpkins
Real pumpkins are
perfect for decorating, but if you want something that is going to last
from the beginning of autumn until Thanksgiving, a real gourd is not
really a viable option. Instead, use balloons and strips of
newspaper to create a paper Mache pumpkin. You will need the
normal paper Mache items of glue, a balloon, and newspaper strips, as
well as orange and black paint. Once you have blown up the balloon
to the perfect pumpkin size and have covered it with the newspaper, let
it dry completely. Then paint it orange while detailing it with
black stripes. You can add an artificial green leaf to the top to
finish the look if desired.
Scarecrow and
Mummies
Gather up your old overalls and plaid,
flannel shirt for a scarecrow in the making. Use an old pillowcase
for the head and stuff if with straw. Secure it to the collar of
the flannel shirt which has also been stuffed full of straw. Old
gardening gloves can be used as the hands, while jeans or overalls can
be stuffed and used as the legs. Place your scarecrow by your
front door, inside on a hallway chair, or on a bench next to the
television. Just be careful to keep him far away from the
fireplace and candles! For variation, rip up an old white sheet
and use it to wrap around a body form that has been created using hay
stuffed into trash bags and tied off for the head, arms, legs, and torso
to create a mummy. Secure the strips of cloth with pins or hot
glue.
Decorating for Halloween does not need to be an
expensive endeavor. There are plenty of wonderful handmade holiday
decorations that can be created with things that you have around the
house. Think outside the box to break forth with your inner
Halloween decorator.
