Wedding Tips: Stick to a Budget

As with any major expense, planning a wedding requires a budget. Early in the process, list expense categories and put a price tag on each one. Don't forget the small items that add up quickly, like tips for service professionals, gifts for attendees, and expenses for "extras," such as a brunch for far-flung relatives in the morning. After the ceremony. Stay firm with well-meaning relatives who want to pad the guest list. "Explain, 'We're starting our marriage on the right foot by sticking to our budget, and I'm sorry, but our 100-guest limit is carved in stone."

Make your own invitation cards. They are cheaper and more personal. If you are having a themed wedding make cards to do with the theme.

Have bouquet with just a few large flowers, like orchids, tulips, lilies, or sunflowers, tied with a ribbon.

Arrange to share the cost of ceremony decorations with the couple marrying directly before or after you that day.

DJs are less expensive than live bands.

Ask at the local college/university for young musicians.
